These porches are made by gluing paper on the outside of boxes, then cut cut out the details.

Find an empty cardboard box that makes a good size for a front porch. Cut all 4 corners down to where the end of the roof comes.

Fold the top right corner from the mark in the middle down to the end of the cut on the side. Repeat on the left side so the front comes to a point in the middle. Repeat on the back of the box.

Cut off the flaps, and fold it in hafl to determine where the middle is.

Mark the middle of front and back of the box.

Glue paper onto the porch box. Use a craft knife or box cutter to cut arches in the front and sides of the box. Glue it onto the front of the house once it has paper glued to it, too.

Glue colored paper to the box. Then there are 2 ways to  proceed--either 1) cut the design while it is still a box, which can be quite complicated, or  2) Take the box apart and lay it on a cutting board. Cut it with a craft knife, then reassemble the box.

To cut the box without taking it apart, use a craft knife to start a hole, then use scissors to cut the details. Use  a hole-punch to cut the tops and bottoms of the rails, and the smaller holes.

Use the cardboard cut from the arched doorway to cut the front door. Cut holes in the door with a hole punch, then cut the point with scissors.

If the porch boxes are brown on the inside, glue white paper to the side that shows (or what ever color the house is.) Then glue the doors and door frames on. Glue the finished porches to the house. Glue a roof onto the top of each porch.

Note: These porches can be quite flimsy. To make them sturdier, don’t cut the sides. Also, you can re-enforce them with a piece of corrugated cardboard the runs the full length of the house, and also under the porches.
